Contractors play a pivotal role in helping homeowners bring their outdoor living visions to life. Each month, we’ll offer a Contractor’s Corner post to share tips to help our contractor partners offer even more to homeowners and their landscapes. Whether your business is located in the plains or by the water, in a hot, humid climate or in cold, snowy regions, pavers can provide a durable, decorative solution to any landscape. This month, we’re taking a look at hardscapes around the country and the regional design trends you can share with your clients. “In Georgia, we are seeing a lot of homeowners use pavers for driveways and patios,” said Marcos Fernandes of Peachtree Pavers in Sugarhill, Ga. “The Cambridge Cobble paver is a popular choice, especially in the Country Blend color – a warm, deep brown tone that complements the surrounding environment.” The best advice you can give your customers is to select hues that work in harmony with their home. Pavers a few shades lighter than the color of the house won’t compete for attention; gray-toned pavers used with brick houses eliminate the urge to match everything; and, brick-colored pavers add warmth to wood or stone houses. The right color section will help your homeowners create a space that blends seamlessly with the natural environment. Pavers have a wide range of application options: patios, walls, walkways, driveways, fire pits and fireplaces, outdoor kitchens and bars. Homeowners aren’t just looking for paving, but rather full outdoor living rooms. “Outdoor living is a big trend in Texas,” said Micah North, Texas sales manager for Belgard Hardscapes. “Seating walls, grill islands and Chicago Brick Ovens are in demand. With our climate, pool decks are also growing. Texans love the Mega Arbel and LaFitt Patio Slabs for their expansive size that reduces install time, allowing the homeowner to enjoy their space sooner and your team to move on to the next job.” While homeowners in different areas of the country have distinct styles and design aesthetics, there are common threads in hardscape trends. “Louisiana tends to follow the rest of the country in terms of the outdoor living trend,” said Jonathan Williams of Lawn Works of LA in Ruston, La. “We are seeing an increasing interest in outdoor kitchens and pool decks. I believe we’ll see a lot more of these types of installations in the next six to 12 months.” Williams said his most popular Belgard paver is Dublin, with Bergerac as a close second. Most of his customers lean toward browns, tans and other Earth tones for a natural look. What trends are you seeing in your region? Let us know in the comments section.
